Acoustic Syndicate is the product of Cleveland County's McMurry clan. Guitarist Steve "Big Daddy" McMurry is joined by his cousins, Bryon McMurry on banjo and Fitz McMurry on drums. The three McMurrys also bring a trademark vocal trio that only a lifetime of singing together can deliver … Read More

Oskar Blues 5k Hash Run

July 20th, 2013
2:00 pm
Burn Calories WHILE You Drink at the Oskar Blues 5K Hash Run

Want to enjoy a few beers without feeling guilty about calories? If so, sign up for the inaugural Oskar Blues 5K Hash Run during Bikes, Brews 'n' Views weekend at Beech Mountain Resort.

Hash runs combine one popular sport – running – with another popular sport – drinking. The Oskar Blues 5K debuts at 2:00 p.m. onSaturday, July 20.

The run "commences" at the base of the ski slopes where runners board the resort's high-speed quad lift for a ride to the top. At that point, the athletes must be prepared to face a beer stop featuring one of Oskar Blues' finest.

Fully refreshed, runners then begin to work their way down the slopes and adjacent terrain, at which point they encounter more beer stops. Wow, you're burning calories and enjoying Dales Pale Ale, Mama's Lil' Yella Pils and Old Chub Scottish Ale!

Best of all, there's an added bonus for reaching the finish line: a VIP pre-tasting of beers available to the general public later that afternoon at the beer fest.

Entry fee for the Oskar Blues 5K Hash Run is $40. That fee includes: the 5K, beers along the way, prizes in various categories, and a spiffy Oskar Blues/Beech Mountain Resort mason jar.

But wait, there's more! Your fee also provides admission to Friday evening's concert featuring Acoustic Syndicate and Melissa Reaves. On Saturday, runners also receive entrance into the beer fest from 3-7 p.m., free parking and access to shuttles.

Brews 'N' Views

What it's all about…

The third annual Bikes, Brews 'n' Views festival at Beech Mountain Resort is expanding into a three-day weekend of events in 2013.

The beer festival remains the centerpiece of the activities and takes place on Saturday, July 20, in conjunction with a dual slalom mountain bike competition. However, the weekend's festivities now begin Friday evening, July 19, with live music at the resort.

Furthermore, the resort celebrates the grand opening of its public mountain biking park and its new disc golf course all weekend long. Chairlift access to the public biking trails and the Town of Beech Mountain's Emerald Outback trails will be available all three days.

On Sunday, there will also be other activities such as an inflatable kids village and youth bike rodeo.

The Bikes, Brews 'n' Views beer festival was held the past two summers in conjunction with the USA Cycling Mountain Biking Gravity National Championships. Although those USAC national championships will not take place this summer, the resort is holding a dual slalom competition that will be easily accessible for patrons of the beer festival.

Hours for the Saturday beer fest are 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and it will be held on the ice skating rink in the heart of the ski resort's Alpine Village. New this year is a contest for best beer, which will be judged by the patrons.

The winning beer will become the highlighted beer for the 2013-14 ski season at Beech Mountain Resort!
