Spring is still Hibernating!

First Trax

Stay up to date by getting notified of new posts!

Remember Spring? It started last week… and then apparently decided to pack up and leave because it's so frigid. Just left us high and dry, or rather cold and wet. But at least we have snow to enjoy!  Tons at Snowhoe >>

And boy, do we. This will be the last full week of skiing and snowboarding in the southeast. All remaining resorts have a closing date in mind so if you're deadline oriented, start planning. Get out there when you can.

App and Beech closed up shop after yesterday's and Saturday's sessions, respectively, leaving NINE ski resorts continuing their 2012 – 2013 season. The hours aren't the only thing that are expanding. I noticed a couple of bases grew! This spring snow storm that's upon us is really laying it down.

Here's a look at the recent snow totals:

Cat (shown left) –   2"

Sugar –            3"

Bryce –             9"

Snowshoe –     8"

Timberline –   5"

Winterplace – 6"

Wisp –             10"

And yes, that is over a period of just the past 24 hours! That's well over three feet combined. I haven't been out there recently so correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think you could ask for better conditions to end the season. Some people decide to put away their gear a little early after a GREAT day on the slopes, because they want to end on a high note, so to speak. They don't want their last day of the season to be crummy, so they don't even chance it by going out the last week or two.

Well, guys and gals, I'm telling you to chance it 😉 Unless you're not into powder and snowy goodness!

In order of imminent closings, here are your options:

1) Cataloochee open through this Friday, March 29

2) Bryce, the Homestead, & Winterplace open through this Saturday, March 30

3) Sugar, Snowshoe, Timberline, and Wisp open through this Easter Sunday, March 31

4) Wintergreen (shown right) open weekends only through next Saturday, April 6

Bottom line — It's still winter at the above nine locations for the next six and half days, even if nowhere else (and yet another full day on April 6 at Wintergreen). Happy skiing and riding!
