Check the snow report page for all of the resort slope conditions at a glance. See: http://www.skisoutheast.com/skireports.php.
Happy Leap Year Day?! That sounds weird to say. It’s February 29th though, and if your birthday is today congrats! You finally get to celebrate it on the actual date. Mike pointed out to me that this is only the fourth time in this history of the site that we’ve done an article on this date. It’s kind of cool to think about it like that I guess. It’s crazy to think that tomorrow is March.
Alright, I was a little bummed out about the underdeveloped snow when I woke up this morning. Now that I’ve had my coffee and I talked to Mike about Snowshoe this weekend, I am in a GREAT MOOD. I’m pretty excited about this weekend as I’ve only been to the Shoe twice before. Every time I’ve gone it’s been for the Ski Southeast Summit actually.
I won’t go over all the details again this morning as I’m sure you guys are probably tired of reading the same old stuff every morning for the past couple of weeks. So here’s the link with all the info…http://www.skisoutheast.com/2012_SkiSoutheast_Snowshoe_Summit.htm.
There are some additional things I figured I’ll mention this morning. First off, I’m going to pick the peeps who will be getting an invitation to First Tracks on Saturday and/or Sunday. I’ll email you and/or PM you on the messageboard so be out on the lookout for that. If you get a message from me and don’t plan on taking part, let me know! Somebody else will be more than happy to take your spot and get some turns in before the mountain opens up to the public.
Second, Mike told me this morning that he is giving an additional incentive to book your trip for the weekend. Anyone who makes reservations today or tomorrow will receive two FREE lift tickets for next season to any resort of your choice in the region, except Sugar Mountain of course. That’s pretty cool of him. If you make those reservations today or tomorrow just email me your reservation number and mailing info and we’ll keep that on record and send you those tickets in the fall.
Don’t miss out on this event! Some people have been a little worried about the weather forecast, but it looks like it won’t be that bad. I’m pumped to ride on Friday as it looks like it’ll be sunny. The underdeveloped snow looks like it’ll mostly be confined to Friday night and really early Saturday, so the skiing and riding on Saturday shouldn’t be too bad at all. Some light snow is even possible Saturday night, meaning First Trax on Sunday morning should be pretty sweet.
Snowshoe has a ton of snow on the mountain still. They still have 57 trails open! Check out this video they posted just a couple days ago and you'll see what I'm talking about.
<<< There is still a TON of snow at Snowshoe. I'm really looking forward to some of this sweet corduroy they are known for.
I’m stoked for this event. You should be too! Join us!
As for the weather this morning….blegh. It’s going to be wet and kind of nasty today for every resort in the region. There’s no way of sugar coating it. It’s definitely not the best day to try and get some turns in. That is, unless you are just hardcore and want to tally up another day on snow. In that case, more power to you. I doubt I’ll see much skier traffic on the cams today though.
It’ll be interesting to see how things look after this round of underdeveloped snow. I’m really thinking we’ll see a few closures this weekend. Nothing has been announced yet, but I think it’ll happen. I’m also interested in seeing who makes snow on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Another shot of colder air is forecasted to move into the region, and I’m hoping that everyone will make snow if possible. I’m positive that Snowshoe will and I’m hoping others will follow suit. After all, a few nights of snowmaking is all it takes for the resorts to completely transform conditions. Cross your fingers!
It’s time for me to go and do some emailing and planning now. I’ll be back tomorrow!
