Good Conditions Continue for FAT Tuesday
02.21.12 08:22 AMCheck the snow report page for all of the resort slope conditions at a glance. See: http://www.skisoutheast.com/skireports.php.
It’s Fat Tuesday and you know what that means!!!…yeah I don’t actually know what it means I just know that a ton of people down in New Orleans are partying today while the rest of us are hard at work. I know I will be busy as I have several web cameras to ship out today. My office is a MESS this morning as I have boxes stacked up all over the place. Look for 4 new webcams to go up in the next week, and I’m ordering 2 more today!
How about the conditions yesterday eh? They looked pretty sweet on the cams as fresh snow and sunny skies look to have made for a fantastic day of skiing and riding across the region. If you were able to get some turns in, you were definitely treated to some of the better conditions of the season. I was up on Beech Mountain yesterday fixing the Pinnacle Cam (which is now working again) and it was absolutely gorgeous up there. The photo of the day on SkiNC is one that I snapped when I was leaving Pinnacle.
I stopped by the resort on my lunch break and there were a lot more people there than I was expecting. I know that it was President’s Day and that it had just snowed, but I figured most people would have already begun traveling back home. That wasn’t the case as many people stuck around for what turned out to be a pretty fantastic day for riding. The lift lines were pretty long, even at 4:15.
<<< At 4:15 the wait for the quad was still pretty lengthy. It was good to see this much business at Beech. More money made means more offseason improvements!
It was definitely a good thing to see that many people in line. I’d imagine that if it was busy at Beech, than more than likely it was busy everywhere. Inarguably, business at every ski area this winter has been down, so days like that have to be a welcome relief to the people who run the resorts.
So, what is in store for today? A cold front is going to move through late in the afternoon/early evening. No worries though, as it’s a weak one and no precip is expected with it. There might be a few sprinkles further north into West Virginia, but other than that it’s just going to be cloudy out there today. Snowmaking took place at a lot of resorts overnight, so snow conditions should be pretty good today.
Expect those temps to warm above freezing today, so any blowers that are on now should be off by the afternoon. I’m crossing my fingers that it’ll be all clear at Beech tonight in terms of snowmaking. I know they have to do it and I love how aggressive they are with it, but riding is way more enjoyable at night without them on. I’m definitely not complaining, I just have pretty bad night vision.
Finally, what would this First Trax report be without your daily reminder about the Snowshoe Summit? Messageboard members get 25% off lodging for the weekend as well as free Sunday lift tickets. We're going to be giving away some shirts as well and Snowshoe has all kinds of events and activities planned for the weekend as a part of Mountain Madness. All in all, you don't want to miss this as it's going to be a pretty fantastic weekend. Snowshoe has 57 of 60 trails open right now and with the Summit being less than 2 weeks away, you can expect conditions to be pretty great for the event. I remain very stoked about this. Check out all the details here...http://www.skisoutheast.com/2012_SkiSoutheast_Snowshoe_Summit.htm...and make your reservations ASAP! Then, head on over to the messageboard and make sure to add your name to the list!
