What's New at Appalachian Ski Mountain for 2008-2009!

After adding to their snowmaking arsenal prior to the 2007 season, Appalachian was able to create a blizzard across the entire mountain every time they cranked up all of the snowmaking mechanism! Improvements in their snowmaking plant allowed App to make snow and remain open with some of the best conditions of any year on record.  Last season was also their longest season on record as they skied and snowboarded for 130 days during the 2007-2008 campaign.  What made that even more impressive was the fact that it was a sub par Winter as far as consistent cold and natural snow.

Even with those impressive stats, Appalachian made even further enhancements during the Summer of 2008. With the completion of a multitude of ski area improvement projects, Appalachian Ski Mtn. has now reinvested 2.5 million dollars in snowmaking and other improvements over the last two years.

More fan guns were added this summer than in any other year in its history. Appalachian has installed a total of 8 SMI tower fan guns on Big Appal, Orchard Run, Appaljack, and their Base Area.

In addition to better snow coverage, this snowmaking expansion should allow the Appaljack Terrain Park to open almost simultaneously with the ski area.

After again significantly expanding the snowmaking reservoir, electrical infrastructure has also been added to support current and upcoming improvements to Appalachian’s snowmaking system.

This electrical infrastructure includes new switchgear, a new switch house, and over five miles of wiring. These improvements will provide the foundation for continued snowmaking expansion into the next decade.

Last year, Appalachian doubled its snowmaking pumping capacity, enlarged its reservoir, and added 5 new tower guns.

Appalachian Ski Mtn. now has the greatest snowmaking capacity per acre in the Southeast.

2008-2009 Events:

Appalachian has tons of great new on snow competitions and events planned for the season. They have brought back their signature "Fresh Friday's" series where all season long you'll experience some fresh new arrangements within their terrain parks!

Their 47th Anniversary Weekend is Saturday, December 6-7 where ski ticket prices are rolled back to 1962 levels.

Ski with Santa on December 24th and of course App will celebrate New Year's Eve with an extravaganza second to none.

They'll have their "Shred for the Cup Slopestyle" comps on January 4th, February 1st, March 1st and the finals on March 21st so make plans to attend!

Their season ends with their always popular "Meltdown Games".
