Good morning to everyone! It’s shaping up to be another beautiful day out there. I’ve been scanning through the cameras a little bit, and every resort looks like it’ll have awesome skiing and riding conditions today. Temperatures will be a little cooler than yesterday, but without the winds it won’t feel like it. The winds were pretty strong yesterday and helped to contribute to a pretty serious brush fire on the outskirts of Boone. With the low humidity, lack of recent precipitation, and windy conditions the NWS was already (and still is) warning of the possibility of fires. Apparently, a tree was blown over and fell on a power line, sparking the inferno. The fire spread pretty rapidly and ended up burning over 100 acres. Thanks to the quick response of firefighters from the N.C. Forest Service and Boone Fire Department, several houses in the vicinity were spared. I was driving through Boone yesterday after work and the smoke was easily visible from town. You could tell from the large plume that something serious was going on and I’m glad to hear that nobody was hurt and that no homes were lost. Kudos to the firefighters!

Getting back to snow stuff,I just wanted to remind you guys about the trip report contest going on again this week. The winner receives 4 free passes to either Cataloochee, Wolf Ridge, or Massanutten. I’ve already seen an increase in both the quality and number of trip reports from the local resorts lately, so I’m glad to see you guys are taking your camera out there with you. Messageboard member want2go2dasno posted some sweet looking pictures from Sugar yesterday, showing off the amazing grooming job that they do out there. I haven’t been to Sugar in a while but after seeing the pictures I’m definitely going to have to get out there soon. If you haven’t seen the report yet head over to the messageboard and check it out. And keep the reports coming!
