Everyone’s calling or emailing wondering WHY we had not posted our morning news and updates that appears within this column as yet. Typically we post our morning story between 8am-9am. The reason? We DO have some resort news to share so be sure to check that out after you enter to win!

In addition to giving away tons of lift passes, we are also announcing TWO MORE VACATION GETAWAYS and choosing winners for the last FOUR Vacation Getaways. ALL TODAY. (If you don’t know if you’ve previously entered, or if you’re concerned about our rules prohibiting multiple entries…don’t worry about it. Since we’re adding two new getaways, you can enter again today.)

We will announce all of the winners today!

Thanks to Wits End Vacation rentals for providing the final two add on vacations! Mike Graham and his group have given us two sweet rentals to give away for a great weekend and you can see each of these by going to the contest pages.

SPLENDID PHOTOS AND VIDEO!

Some of the photos that we posted yesterday were some of the best we’ve seen this season. You should check out the POWDER shots that Mark McKelvy took while at Wintergreen Resort from last week. CLICK HERE TO SEE THEM!!!

Here’s the morning resort notes:

Wisp – It’s 4° and snow is in the forecast for Friday and it should be clear and cold this weekend with highs in the teens and 20s and lows near 10° all weekend! Conditions will be wonderful at the Garrett County, Maryland resort for this weekend!

Canaan Valley – At 6am the temp was -2°! 37 trails are ready with Powder and Packed Powder conditions awaiting you!

Snowshoe Mountain is showing -4° at 6am. Conditions couldn’t much better today and for this weekend with all of the snow they’ve had of late. Lindsay Kutsko wrote, “Today’s surface conditions are groomed packed powder. Snowmaking did take place overnight and all trails were groomed except for Lower Shays. The Silver Creek Terrain Garden is open today with 8 features on Timberjack. Flying Eagle & The Magic Carpet Lifts will close at 4:30 today at the Silver Creek Ski Area. The Mountaineer Lift will run beginning at 4 p.m.Skipjack will be closed today and possibly this weekend due to Nastar race.”

Timberline Resort – They are also showing a -4° reading this morning! Timberline will be skiing and riding on 29 trails and they say that about 80% of them have been groomed with a sweet corduroy finish!

Winterplace Resort – They have groomed packed powder conditions on 26 open trails, which puts them at almost 100% open! Great conditions.

Bryce Resort – They are in great shape to host the USSA Race Junior 4-6 & Masters races this weekend. They didn’t make snow last night but have very nice conditions on all (8) trails.

Massanutten is reporting 8° and 100% of their mountain is open. They also offer 9 lanes of tubing!

Wintergreen Resort – Be sure to check out the great video that Joe Harmon and Mark McKelvy took while at Wintergreen last week. The conditions are GREAT! Sarah Lovejoy wrote, “Big Acorn OPENS today. Today, we will be skiing and riding on 22 trails with a machine groomed, packed powder surface, and 4 lifts will be running. Blue Ridge Express Lift is currently closed for maintenance and is scheduled to reopen this afternoon.”

Ober Gatlinburg – They are 100% Open and Slope sessions for today and this weekend are as follows: Friday are 9am – 4pm or 3pm – 10pm with $28 Lift Ticket. Weeknight 6pm – 10pm Lift Ticket Only $15! Grizzly closes at dusk. Ice skating and other activities open daily.

Appalachian Ski Mountain – We’ve already received some emails about App’s website being down this morning. We are not in charge of their website, but we can tell you from experience that the “could not connect to database” tell-tell message is usually a quick fix so it should be up soon. We called and they are making snow at 14° this morning and 100% open with great conditions for this weekend.

Cataloochee is reporting that it is 11° at the Maggie Valley resort. They are 100% open with great conditions and they made snow last night.

Hawksnest Resort – They haven’t updated their website this morning as yet, but we spoke with Rowe up there and he said that they have 10 trails open AND the popular tubing hill. That means that everything on the mountain is open including the most recent addition (Merlin) and the only thing not open is Old Blue and Narrow Gauge. Also we snuck a peek at the live camera this morning and all we can say is, “I wonder how soon I can get out of the office and on that sweet corduroy!?!?” Those fellows sure know how to groom! Take a look at this pic from 8:45am!

Ski Beech – They are reporting 11° and conditions could not be much better at the highest ski resort in the Eastern United States! They are making snow and 100% open with great conditions.

Sugar Mountain – They are reporting a low this morning of 7° and conditions are sugary-sweet on their 20 open trails on a base of 45-83” If you have plans to be at Sugar this weekend, be sure to check out the High Country Junior Race Series Championships, sponsored by Eurosock, Spyder, Carrera and Uvex is Sunday, February 11th on Big Red. You can also enjoy the acoustic sounds of North Carolina High Country bluegrass by BOSS HAWG, live, this Saturday from 4:00 pm-6:00 pm.

Wolf Ridge Resort – They didn’t make snow for the second night in a row but several people who have emailed have said that conditions are simply great. They offer 16 trails this morning!

Until Next Time…

THINK COLD AND SNOW!!!
