Freezing rain seems to be the story across much of the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast mountains this morning. This will, however, lead to snow this evening through tomorrow. According to the National Weather Service Alerts, Wisp Resort up in Maryland can expect 3-5 inches of snow, the West Virginia resorts 6-10 inches, patchy wintery mix for many of the Virginia resorts, 2-6 inches for the North Carolina Mountains, and 4-8 inches possible for Ober in Tennessee. Let’s pray to the snow gods that it all works out according to plan!

Most of the North Carolina High Country put their schools on a 2 hour delay today, so a little ice hit the roads this morning, but nothing too bad – yet. Here’s the view this morning of downtown Boone, NC – our home base.
Appalachian Ski Mountain is opening tomorrow and I plan on being there for an on the mountain report. The Thanksgiving weekend is going to be a busy one as we hit a frenzy pace as more and more resorts open. Keep an eye on Wolf Ridge, as they hope to open this weekend as well, but no firm date yet.
We have an update for Massanutten from our good friend and mountain ambassador Meimei. Mnut will open on Friday, November 29 for tubing only and looks to open the mountain for skiing and riding on Saturday, November 30th.
We are looking for on the mountain reporters. If you are going to be at Beech or Snowshoe on Friday, or Wintergreen or Massanutten on Saturday please send us your images, videos, and thoughts and we’ll post them in First Trax and on the front page of the site.
Sugar Mountain
Sugar is not making snow as of writing, but it’s a sure bet they will as the temps drop today. Sugar is reporting a 10-38 inch base, up 2 inches from yesterday. Sugar is operating from the top on Northridge, Switchback, Upper Flying Mile, Lower Flying Mile, and the Magic Carpet Area. The yellow lift and magic carpet will take you back up the hill.
Catalochee Ski Area
Cat too is not blowing snow as of 7:30 but l’m sure they will as the temps drop. They are reporting a 20-38 inch base this morning, down 2 inches from yesterday. Cat is open from the top of the quad (3/4) with 9 runs – Rock Island Run, Alley Cat, Lower Snowbird Trail, Lower Omigosh, Upper Over Easy, Over Easy, Rabbit Hill, Easy Way, & Beginner's Luck, with the quad, Easy Way, and conveyor helping you get back to the top.
