WOW – these past couple of days have seen a lot of snow fall on the Southeast ski resorts.  What a great Valentine’s gift from Mother Nature – it is true, she does love us!

Lot's of snow at Snowshoe Ski Resort

This is another one of those days where it’s hard to know where to start.  So, let’s start

where we did yesterday and look at the snowfalls.  Below are the totals over the past couple of days.

Appalachian Mountain: 13”
Beech Mountain: 22”
Cataloochee Ski Area: 14”
Sugar Mountain: 27”
Wolf Ridge: 7”
Bryce Resort:  23”
The Homestead: 13”
Massanutten Resort:  13”
Wintergreen Resort: 12+”
Canaan Valley Ski Resort: 18”
Snowshoe Ski Resort: 19”
Timberline Resort:18”
Winterplace Ski Resort: 20”
Wisp Resort: 8”
Ober  Gatlinburg: 7”

These might be pretty rough numbers.  As Wintergreen put it, where do you measure – there’s just so much.   Plus there is more snow on the way.   Snowshoe has ANOTHER Winter Weather Advisory from 7pm this evening ‘til 10am Saturday morning.  They could get another 1-4” of snow.

Ober Gatlinburg in Tennessee has been issued a Winter Storm Warning also starting at 7pm this evening and going to 10am on Saturday morning.  They can expect another 2-6” of snow.  It’s the same story here  in the North Carolina High Country where Beech has been issued an Alert and can expect another 2-4” tonight and into tomorrow.

Here are the details from our friends at the Weather Channel.

The pics and videos coming out of the resorts are pretty amazing.  We received the Week at Winterplace video yesterday and loaded that up on the site.

Cataloochee opened up The Meadows yesterday and they just announced in the past few minutes that they will open it up again today – GLORY DAYS!  The past 24 hours has vaulted Cat’s base to over 100” – a first for the year!  They have joined Appalachian, Sugar, Snowshoe, Canaan, and Timberline who are also in the 100” club.

The Meadows at Cataloochee Ski Area

dreamnofpow  from our message board made it to Cataloochee yesterday and posted a great trip report.

I sure hope you guys can make it out this President’s Day Weekend.  It is clear from the message board that there is lots of planning and scheming going on.  I hope to make it up to Beech tomorrow – we’ll just have to see, but Beech is just looking too good to let slip by.

Bluebird day at Beech Mountain

It is EPIC out there at the Southeast resorts.  Don’t let this pass you by.  This will be the storm and conditions that we will talk about all summer which will get us through until next season.

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone and take care out there today!
