You know that it’s been cold when the low this morning at a ski area such as Appalachian is 21° warmer than 24 hours earlier and yet it’s still 24°!

If you planned a ski getaway for this weekend you will be among those who experience the best ski conditions of the season, no matter where you decide to go. Most resorts have bases that we are rating in GREAT category and all have groomed and/or packed powder conditions. Many resorts are in such great shape that the snowguns will be off during ski sessions so you’re going to have a great weekend.

The weather will be Chamber of Commerce-like with a mix of sun and clouds, a sprinkle of snow flurries here and there and temperatures that will be in the 30s for highs both Saturday and Sunday, and lows in the low 20s.

Here’s some quick highlights:

Cataloochee wants us to remind their fans to join the Cat Crew on Sunday afternoons for the Cataloochee Recreational Race Series. $10.00 gets you in and $1.00 of your race entry fee will be donated to KARE the Kids Advocacy Resource Effort of Haywood County. So go out and race to support a great cause! Individuals race against the clock for the best of two runs. Top three challengers in both men’s and womens’ age divisions win cool stuff. You must be 7 years of age or older to participate. Racing is from 1pm-3pm with awards ceremony at 4pm, so dust off those racing skills and test your luck. The Cat is where it’s at on Sunday afternoon’s Recreational Race Series. Call the ski area for more information.

Hawksnest Ski Resort – Remember that they are hosting Collegiate Races this weekend. They will have Boardercross/Skiercross on Saturday and Giant Slalom on Sunday. Check out yesterday’s story for more details if you missed it.  Click here> Hawksnest Ski Resort Races

Hawksnest opens Sock Em Dog today.

Ski Beech has some races going on up their as well. The Crescent Ski Council ski race is on Robbins Run today and Sunday. Also Oz fans will want to note that it is open today.

Sugar made snow last night but the guns of OFF and will stay off during ski sessions! That tells you all you need to know about how good their base is! They have 19 of 20 trails open, terrain fun and ice skating to boot.

Wolf Resort – Don’t forget that they too have a Slopestyle Comp going on this weekend as well.

Enjoy your day…

Until Next time…
