A bluebird day

As we see the last of the snowmaking opportunities fade away, it looks like we were left with a nice little period to recharge the resorts. Most of the guns are being turned-off, as we speak, and a bluebird day is the resounding word. For nearly all the resorts, today is the “pick day” of the (work) week.

Tomorrow brings some rain to nearly the entire region. Friday afternoon/evening, that rain begins to turn to snow for many of the resorts!

Just enough cold air for the NC mountains.

Ski Sapphire: was able to make some snow last night and as a result, they are looking great. They were able to make 2 – 3″ of machine-made snow last night, to really give their base a nice bump. Sapphire is open until 8pm, with 3 runs and 2 lifts. Tubing is open from 10am – 6pm.

The scene from Sapphire this morning

Beech Mountain: Open today until 9pm, with skiing and riding on 11 runs and 4 lifts. TONIGHT is the S’mores and Pours event between 6-9pm. “Warm up the holiday season with some sweets and spirits! S’mores are free, and pours are $6 per pint. We’ll be roasting marshmallows over a fire pit outside of the Brewhouse, so come bundled up! All ages welcome.”

Cataloochee: Open today until 10pm, with skiing and riding on 16 runs and 4 lifts. Tube World is open, as well as Wee Bowl (a children’s snowplay area for kids under 42″).

Appalachian Ski Mountain: Open today with skiing and riding on 10 runs and 4 lifts. Ice skating is also open at App.

Wolf Ridge: Open today until 10pm, with skiing and riding on 4 runs and 3 lifts.

Wisp has had a marathon snowmaking session!

Wisp: Wisp definitely gets the award for keeping their snowmaking going the longest. The cold air seems to be sticking around Western MD. Wisp is open today until 9pm, with skiing and riding on 9 runs and 5 lifts.

Wisp is enjoying this cold air

VA keeps their snowmaking going until this morning

Bryce: The scene from Bryce today looks like my kind of blizzard. They have the machines cranked-up and are putting a “fresh coat” on the slopes. Bryce is open today until 5pm, with skiing and riding on 7 runs and 3 lifts.

A winter wonderland at Bryce

Massanutten: open today until 5pm, with skiing and riding on 6 runs and 5 lifts. Keep in mind tubing is also open at Massanutten. With blue skies on tap, it sounds like a great day to “do the double” (Ski and Tube).

Wintergreen: back up to 9 runs and 3 lifts, with skiing and riding until 5pm today. Wintergreen was able to make some snow last night, and as a result, was able to “fill in the gaps” between some of the runs.

Fresh tracks at wintergreen, anyone?

WV had a good last couple of days.

Snowshoe: a bluebird day in store for Snowshoe . . . “Our groomers have pushed out another day of great conditions on the slopes. Snowmaking may be in progress on open terrain as our team of snowmakers work day and night to provide the best skiing/riding surface possible. The Soaring Eagle lift will remain closed today due to electrical issues. Camp 99, Widowmaker, and Lower Hootenanny will also be closed. Upper Flume will remain open for accessing the Basin from the South Mountain area. You can catch a shuttle back from the Village.

*I am at Snowshoe for the next couple of days and am so stoked!

Winterplace: a great looking day at Winterplace with 14 runs and 6 lifts, still open. The action continues until 10pm tonight.

Canaan Valley: a hearty base is developing at Canaan. Looks like they took full advantage of the cold air to add some significant depth. Today CV is open until 4:30pm . . . skiing and riding on 13 slopes and 4 lifts.

CV is making a sizeable base

Ober has some good (cold) weather in store this weekend

Ober: skiing and riding on 3 runs with 2 lifts. Looks they might be hit with some natural snow this Friday, all while being able to crank up their snowguns. Ober should have their best weekend of the season (so far), coming up.

That’s all for today.

We’d REALLY LOVE IT…if you would:
