14 Days to Go Until the 1st Annual SkiSoutheast.com Summit! We seem to have a least 45 attending so far and if you haven’t made plans to attend, it promises to be a great time. We’ll make plans to meet up on Saturday morning, do some quick group photos and video, and then go take over Snowshoe Mountain! It will be kind of cool to see a lot of us fire down that mountain wearing the new SkiSoutheast.com hoodies! We’ve got a ton of stickers and the new hoodies to giveaway and whatever we have left over of the SkiNC Hoodies will be given away as well! If you haven’t made plans…do so today!

The First Annual SkiSoutheast.com Summit is March 7th, 8th and 9th at Snowshoe Mountain and they’ve had 10" of snow this week, with more snow this weekend and EVEN more snow in the forecast for late next week! The Weekend Looks Great!

None of the NC Resorts made snow overnight. They all have good coverage for today, but some are a bit more whimpy looking than others. No thin coverage or bare spots to report, but some loose and wet granular conditions will be order of the day for Friday. The weekend looks great with highs in the 30s and 40s and lows in the 20 Saturday and Sunday night which means snowmaking!  The forecast for next week is looking promising with colder temps and even some snow in the forecast!

Check the Slope Conditions Page for the Details

Sapphire Valley – We been asked a lot about whether or not they will try to reopen their ski slopes after closing a couple of weeks ago. The word from down there is "no" they will not make an effort to reopen for this season. They ARE open for tubing however.

SkiNC / SkiSoutheast’s First Sponsored Snowboarding Phenom is Lighting Up Copper Mountain!

<Lindsea goes BIG at Copper Mountain!

Lindsea Lumpkin has graced the pages of this website more than a few times and however in case this is your first time hearing her name she is the young snowboarding superstar that hails from Georgia but is climbing the national rankings to be one of the top stars in the sport in years to come. We were her first sponsor four years ago and have continued to keep a special place in her heart (as we have kept a small sponsorship going). She has a special place in our hearts as well as she continues to talk us up wherever she goes.

..and go she does! She’s competed and made 8 trips to Colorado thus far this season and she has 4 more trips planned before wrapping up her 2007-2008 schedule!

Lindsea Lumpkin is the 10 year old, 5th grader who hails from Georgia. Lindsea started skiing at 2 years old at Sugar Mountain in North Carolina, and switched to Ski Beech to participate in the Youth Learning Center under Jeb Brown, who has played a huge role in Lindsea’s early successes.

Lindsea’s first terrain park run was at Silver Creek in West Virginia (part of Snowshoe Mountain Resort) at the age of 4. Her first competition was at The Edge of the World Series and her first sponsor was SkiNC.com. She was just 6 years old at that time and she’s been competing in snowboarding and skateboarding comps ever since.

Proud pop, Tommy Lumpkin sent us some shots that we will post as deserved Photos of the Day and we’re proud to share that she has podiumed in each event that she’s competed in this season! She was won 11 medals total so far! 6 silver and 5 bronze! She’s still younger than several of the top girls in her age group and right now she stands to make a pretty good run at nationals that will take place March 30th through April 4th.

PRETTY COOL TIMING GETTING LINDSEA’S PICS AND NOTABLES!

I commented to Tommy that it was pretty cool timing getting Lindsea’s accomplishments as she may just be an integral part of the future of women’s snowboarding superstars of the future…and today we will be interviewing one the top PRESENT superstars in women’s X Games Comps, Slopestyle and Superpipe skiing.

Grete Eliassen, the American-born, Norwegian-raised skier has won back-to-back gold at WX ’06 and ’05 and silver at WX ’07. Grete has reported that she raced from about 10 to 16 years old. So Lindsea’s got a huge head start!

Look for that interview posted on Saturday!

Until Next time…
