The SugarFest rail jam will bring together the area’s best skiers and riders in a spectator friendly contest at Sugar Mountain Resort. They’ll be competing for over $4500 in cash and prizes including a $500 first place prize in both the skier and boarder jams.

Eric Schmidinger and Sugar’s crew of groomers and snowmakers will be setting up a series of rails and boxes near the bottom of the Big Birch run for the jam.  This is a convenient location just up from the Sugar Mtn. lodge building for spectators to catch the action.

COLD AIR is on the way and by the weekend conditions should be favorable for a great event!

Registration for both skiers and boarders is $35 prior to the event – sign up at Alpine Ski Center by November 25th.  Participants can also register the day of the event for $45 under the Alpine Ski Center tent.  The price of registration includes a full day lift ticket (a $68 value) plus a bag of goodies from the sponsors including  Alpine, Ride, Burton, Scott, Oakley, Salomon, Smith, Dakine, One Ball Jay, Dalbello, and more.

The maximum number of participants has not yet been set, but organizers reserve the right to close registration prior to Dec. 9th.  Alpine Ski Center’s contact person for the jam, Mark Newton said “We’re already getting a lot of buzz and excitement around the event so it looks like we might have to cap it as the event date gets closer.  Everyone interested in doing it should sign up as soon as possible.”

The jam is just one feature of the SugarFest celebration, which runs from Dec 14th thru the 16th, and includes a free demo of the latest in ski and board equipment – free of charge with manufacturer’s representatives on site.  Also, you don’t want to miss an ice skating demonstration by world class skater, Paul Wiley as well as impressive ice sculptures crafted while you watch.  Boss Hawgs will provide entertainment and a fireworks show is set for Saturday night.
