Ober Gatlinburg is starting their season today with the Back in Blue Rail Jam. The gates open at 4:00, practice is at 6:00, and the competition starts at 7:00. What a great way to start the season. Click here for more information, http://www.obergatlinburg.com/event/104/.
And speaking of season starts, Massanutten announced yesterday that they are targeting Friday November, 29 to open the Tubing Park and Saturday November, 30 to open the slopes for the season. The more the merrier I say!
Warm weather has set in for most of the Southeast ski resorts with a chance of rain just about everywhere. Looks like the resorts in MD, WV, & VA are looking at a 50% or greater chance of rain, while the NC Mountains are looking at 40% and less. The chance for snow is still in the forecast, but now for Sunday instead of Saturday/Saturday night. Regardless, snow making temps will return Saturday night. Taking a quick look at the cams this morning, it appears that Sugar has blue skies while Cataloochee is a bit overcast.

Cat is reporting an 16-30 inch base, down 2 inches from yesterday’s report. They are skiing from mid-station on 6 runs – Lower Omigosh, Rabbit Hill, Easy Way, Upper Over Easy, Over Easy and Beginner's Luck, supported by 2 lifts – Omigosh & Easy Way, and 1 conveyor on Beginner’s Luck.
Sugar Mountain
Sugar is reporting a 6-28 inch base, down 2-5 inch from yesterday. Sugar is also running with their same configuration, 2 slopes – Upper Flying Mile and Lower Flying Mile, with one lift going 3/4 of the way up the mountain. Tubing is closed but ice skating is open.
