5-7″ of Snow Possible (Maybe more) through Sunday Night for North Carolina Mountains!

Stay up to date by getting notified of new posts!

The big news on everyone’s mind is the snow and cold temperatures heading into the area.  As of 6:45am this morning we were getting some rather heavy rain here and we should continue to see at least light rain until around 1pm or so.  That is when it’s expected to be cold enough to change to snow.  If everything holds as it looks right now, the National Weather Service is saying that some areas of the North Carolina Mountain may see up to 7” from now through Sunday evening.  We can hope!

The normal temps for this date are 44° for the high and 22° for the low…and that’s what we’ll be seeing today.  The high is RIGHT NOW and the low will come later in the day.

Last year in this date we had a high of 37° and the lows was 24°.

The records for this date in weather history are:

High temp of 65° set back in 1962
Low temp of minus 10° set in 1970
Most snow on this date was 4” set in 1995.

Here’s the forecast:

Today: Periods of rain showers before 1pm, then snow showers likely. Some thunder is also possible. High near 44. Breezy, with a southwest wind 13 to 16 mph becoming west between 21 and 24 mph. Winds could gust as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

Tonight: Snow showers likely. Cloudy, with a low around 24. Breezy, with a west wind between 24 and 28 mph, with gusts as high as 41 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Sunday: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 31. Breezy, with a west wind between 24 and 28 mph, with gusts as high as 41 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Sunday Night: A slight chance of snow showers. Partly cloudy, with a low near 20. Breezy, with a west wind between 21 and 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Monday: Partly cloudy, with a high near 35. West wind between 14 and 16 mph.

Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 19.

Tuesday: Partly cloudy, with a high near 37.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 14.

Wednesday: Partly cloudy, with a high near 39.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low near 20.

Thursday: Mostly cloudy, with a high around 35.

Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24.

Friday: Partly cloudy, with a high around 40.

So we’re not seeing the potential for 12-15” that Brad Panovich was throwing down a day or two ago, but the cold air is in place, so if we can find a supplier of moisture…who knows!

Until Next Time!
